Lifestyle: Justin “Jstar” Jackson
Posted on 10 September 2010
One of the main reasons why Room 322 was born is to bring new lifestyles and fashion to Edmonton. When traveling to new places, you will notice that people dress, talk, walk, etc completely different when compared to your hometown. One of the best ways to showcase these interesting lifestyles is to hear first hand from the front line. With that said I want to welcome Justin “Jstar” Jackson to Room 322′s blog who reigns in Arizona. Justin is no stranger to the streetwear culture and will bring a new interesting perspective to Room 322′s blog.
Welcome to fam Justin, check the short interview below.
For all the readers who do not know you what is your name and where are you from? Where did the name Jstar come from?
My name is Justin Jackson and I was born in Long Beach, California but currently reside in Phoenix, Arizona. The nickname “Jstar” was just a way to combine my intial with my belief in higher-level thinking. My grandma always said I was a bright kid.
How would you describe your style of fashion?
My style is versatile, influenced mainly by westcoast streetwear, but I do incorporate Japanese streetwear as well. Some days I feel like dressing more “grown up”, so I might throw on a Ralph Lauren pea coat. It really just depends on how I feel when I wake up.
Seems a lot of people want that causal and “grown up” look in their closet. How long have you been into streetwear culture? What really got you into it?
I would say about 6 years now. When I was in high school my older brother really put me up on game. I was quiet in school, but fashion helped give me a voice without me having to say much. I had fell in love with Bape and the early seasons of BBC, the rest was history.
That is so true, the way we present ourselves often influence how people perceive us. What are your current favorite brands and why?
My favorite brands currently would be Black Scale, Dearly Departed, Huf and a new project called November Red. I love these brands because to me fashion is art. It’s another form of expression and for me these brands do just that. Often the designs from these brands are bold or even controversial but it’s always great to see brands that push the envelope, when everyone else is doing the same thing.
